Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2021 Commercializing New Technology course (first course in the IIA program).  The application deadline is extended to April 5, 2021.  Accepted students will be notified by email.

Iowa JPEC has created an advanced entrepreneurial experience for students looking for a competitive advantage when seeking a position within an existing innovative organization or wanting to hone their entrepreneurial skills to launch a new venture someday.  This select opportunity is a two-course sequence that will help set students apart and further develop their innovative problem solving, strategic thinking, and communication skills.  Students will interact with business and industry leaders to help expand their professional network.  Students must commit to participating in both courses to complete the Iowa Innovation Academy.

In the first course, Commercializing New Technology, students will work in teams to identify technology-based innovation opportunities arising from the validation of market needs or problems.  Students will utilize the latest techniques in design thinking, lean methodology, and business modelling.  Teams will regularly interact alumni entrepreneurs and business and industry experts.

In the second course, Commercializing New Technology II, student teams will create a formal technology commercialization plan for a student team or university-based discovery; teams will be assigned alumni entrepreneurial mentors, interact with industry experts, and engage with potential customers and partners.  Students will experience first-hand what entrepreneurs go through when developing and presenting a business plan to angel investors and venture capitalists.
