Mandela Washington Fellowship program at UI

About

This summer the Institute for International Business (IIB) and the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (Iowa JPEC) are providing a new unique internship opportunity for University of Iowa students for the summer of 2020.

For five weeks (June 19- July 24), 25 students will be assigned to work with Mandela Washington Fellowship Young African Leaders to act as a student intern (one per Fellow). Students will be matched to the Fellows based on overlapping interests in particular industrial sectors. Student interns will provide fellows with assistance in creating and perfecting presentations, developing a business model canvas, conducting and interpreting results of customer discovery, and developing a professional network. Weekly intern meetings will be held with IIB faculty or staff to provide feedback, discuss internship challenges, and cross-cultural questions. Throughout the five weeks, student interns will gain first-hand knowledge of the business environment in Sub-Saharan Africa, experience working in a cross-cultural team, and develop a working relationship that has the potential to impact their future careers.

How it works

  • This internship will require 20/hrs. a week over a 5 week period (100 hours total).
  • The Internship will start June 19 and end July 24. The majority of this work will need to be done during business hours (8:00am-5:00pm) Monday-Friday.
  • Occasionally, work will also be done outside of these hours but will not surpass the total of 20 hours a week.
  • Upon completion of the internship, students will be expected to write a report on their experience during the internship.
  • Students should expect to engage in some evening activities during the course of the internship.
  • To be considered for this opportunity, please apply by selecting the orange "Apply today" button at the bottom of this page.

Please note
