DUARTE CARVALHO

Duarte De Carvalho has a background in Geology, seven years of work experience in the oil and gas sector, and recently ventured into the food production/agribusiness/entrepreneurship fields. He co-founded an Agritech start-up, currently on the prototyping stage, developing digital solutions that can support food growers already using or transitioning to indoor food production systems. Duarte started his career in 2011 with Schlumberger Angola, a global oilfield services company, taking a wireline field engineer position. Duarte chose to work at this company as it would allow him to develop leadership, technical skills and develop a global network. Duarte’s work at Schlumberger ended in July of 2018 after being awarded the Chevening Scholarship from the UK government to pursue an MBA program in Scotland, Aberdeen. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Duarte looks forward to applying the teachings and experience gained from the institute at the University of Iowa to take the start-up he is currently working on to the next stages of development. He also plans to keep promoting the growth of his food production venture and social projects he supports in Angola.
