The University of Iowa’s Venture School has announced a new award, the Most Promising Opportunity (MPO), which will be added to the awards presented on the final day of Startup Weekend on Nov. 22. The MPO award will be presented to the startup with the most promising new business opportunity.

A total of five MPO prizes will be awarded, with one awarded at each of the five cities participating in Startup Weekend: Ames, Cedar Falls, Council Bluffs, Iowa City and the Quad Cities. Winners will receive the opportunity to attend Venture School tuition-free in the community of their choice in 2016.

Levi Bostain, an organizer with Startup Weekend in Iowa City, said the event allows entrepreneurs to impose challenges on themselves and their colleagues intended to focus their product planning efforts.

“It’s a great opportunity to put your heart and soul into a simple idea with a few great minds to build the best thing you can in a single weekend,” Mr. Bostain said. “It’s build, build, build all weekend long and seeing what these teams can produce at the end is always a mind-blowing experience.”
