Omphile Matane

Omphile Matane has over 12 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry and has been a full-time entrepreneur for nine years. She currently owns and manages a wedding and conference venue, Monakaladi Gardens, based in South Africa, which she aims to grow into an African Eco-Lodge. Omphile´s focus is on building rural economies by bringing culture, agriculture, and tourism together through AgriTourism to create employment and sustainable livelihoods. Omphile is also the chairperson of #MosadiMotlokolo, a women´s empowerment club for women who work in tourism that aims to grow women-owned tourism businesses through networking, financial support, and resource sharing. Being from a rural area, Omphile believes that agriculture and tourism are critical to transforming rural economies. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she plans to share what she learned to empower others to change rural areas through AgriTourism.
