This event offers prominent speakers and experts from different parts of the world a platform to showcase the entrepreneurial opportunities that exist in their countries to Iowa companies, organizations, entrepreneurs, students, UI faculty and staff. Registration for this event is required.

This year's summit focuses on how institutions of higher learning can facilitate international relations and the global economy using entrepreneurship as the focal point through the panelist session and the following keynote speakers:

  • Sarah Boeving | Deputy Project Director for Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX)
  • Dave Okech | Former UI Mandela Washington Fellow, CEO of Rio Fish, Managing Director of SareMillers LTD

The 2019 International Entrepreneurship Summit is hosted by the Institute for International Business (IIB). The Institute for International Business has been hosting the International Entrepreneurship Summit in Iowa City every year since spring 2015.


Keynote Luncheon | 12:30pm - 1:45pm

Graduate Hotel, Wayne Ballroom A, Iowa City

The keynote speaker, Sarah Boeving, from the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX), will focus on trade and entrepreneurship being used as tools to boost international relations and commercial diplomacy. Lunch will be provided.

Panel discussion | 2:00pm - 4:00pm *Students welcome

Graduate Hotel, Benson Room A & B. Iowa City

This discussion will focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration with colleagues in Africa to better understand the entrepreneurship ecosystem on the continent. Panelists will include representatives from the University of Ghana, University of Lagos, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Superieure de Commerce (Supdeco), and a past Mandela Washington Fellow from our University of Iowa Cohort. These panelists will be able to give firsthand experience on the entrepreneurship in Africa and how the state of Iowa and its businesses can get involved.

Founders Club Fair and Entrepreneurial Networking Reception | 4:00-6:00pm

Attendees of the International Entrepreneurship Summit are welcome to join us for our Founders Club fair and our Entrepreneurial Networking Reception following the panel discussion. Additional details will be provided on the day off. These events will be in located in the same building.
