What is the BMC Global?

The Business Model Competition Global Final is the first and largest student venture validation competition in the world. Each year thousands of student teams from hundreds of schools across the globe participate in qualifier competitions, striving to reach the top 40 and compete in the global final. Each of the 40 teams that advance to the final are awarded a minimum of $2,500 with the potential to win up to $20,000.

How to qualify

Based on the methodology of the Business Model Canvas, you will be required to tell your company's story, beginning from the idea stage, and including pivots along the way. Applications will be submitted electronically and judged by Iowa JPEC leadership. One student business will be selected as a finalist to compete at the Business Model Competition Global.

Eligibility

  • The company must have a student co-founder who has a controlling interest or equal controlling interest with other co-founders. The student must be the one to submit the application.
  • All students must be enrolled in at least 6 s.h. and in pursuit of a four-year degree at an Iowa college with a Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center are eligible to participate. These colleges include: the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa, Drake University, and North Iowa Area Community College.

Applications will be accepted until March 27, 2020. If you are a University of Iowa student and have applied to the Iowa Innovation Challenge, your application for that competition will also count as an entry for this.
