Give Back

Give back to the University of Iowa and the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center by mentoring entrepreneurial students through their journey. The Iowa JPEC Alumni–Student Mentoring Program was established to connect students with alumni in order to enhance students’ professional and personal development for future success and is a part of the entrepreneurship, professional prep course. Your experience and advice can help make a difference in a student’s life easing transition from college and into the “real-world" You are a key player in their future success.

Mentor Requirements

  • Fill out the below application. If accepted into the program, you will also be asked to fill out an online profile on your career background and personal interests in order to provide a suitable match between mentor and student mentee.
  • Review short orientation on best mentor practices, and available resources
  • Meet with your assigned student mentee on regular basis (vis phone, facetime, skype, etc.).
  • You are expected to meet with your student mentee to complete assigned coursework as a part of the professional prep course. However, additional meetings can be added as determines by you and your mentee.
  • Share your knowledge, experience, insight, and resources to help student mentee enhance their professional and personal growth.
  • Fill out end of the semester survey on your experience as a mentor.

Through this semester long mentoring program, alumni mentors will provide guidance that is meets the student’s personal needs and goals in their life. Examples of mentoring topics include:

  • Career Exploration
  • Resume Review
  • Mock Interview/Interview Advice
  • Starting a New Business
  • Identifying and Exploring Strengths
  • Transition from College Life to Work Life
  • General Life Advice
