2001 Merle Volding Business Plan Competition Winners
Nine University of Iowa student teams presented their final business plans in the
inaugural Merle Volding Business Plan Competition held on May 9, 2001. Each team
was competing for one of two $5,000 seed capital awards to support the launch of their
new venture.
The award winners were: Jason Trout, with his Planet-Save.com business plan, and Chris Weismayer’s CTI-The Pelvex System concept.
“We are very grateful to Merle Volding for providing this wonderful opportunity to
University of Iowa students,” commented David Hensley, Executive Director of the Pappajohn
Center. “Selecting the two winners was difficult due to the number innovative concepts
and quality of aspiring student entrepreneurs participating in the competition.”
