Online Education
The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center at The University of Iowa is pleased to announce that the nationally acclaimed Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management is now available online. The certificate may be earned separately or as part of the University's BAS/BLS online degree programs.
The Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management is designed to empower imagination, apply knowledge, encourage innovation, and accelerate career and entrepreneurial success. Throughout the program, you will develop critical skills necessary for pursuing your professional career aspirations, including:
- Innovation and Creativity
- Opportunity Recognition and Assessment
- Strategic Business Planning
- Leadership
- Negotiation and Conflict Resolution
- Financial Analysis and Budgeting
- Sales and Market Analysis
- Verbal and Written Communications
- Team-Building
Plan of Study
To earn the Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management, students must be admitted to the University and successfully complete 18-20 semester hours of course work. To earn the certificate, students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all course work for the certificate.
The required courses include the following:
6T:050 Foundations in Entrepreneurship (or its equivalent)
6T:120 Entrepreneurship and Innovation (or its equivalent)
6T:133 Entrepreneurial Finance
6T:134 Entrepreneurial Marketing
6T:150 Managing the Growth Business
Students may choose two of the following electives to complete the program:
6T:144 Nonprofit Organizational Effectiveness I
6T:147 Social Entrepreneurship
6T:148 E-commerce Strategies for Entrepreneurs
6T:192 Entrepreneurship: Business Consulting
6T:194 Advanced Business Planning
6T:199 Academic Internship
All of the required courses and a majority of the electives will be offered each semester.
Admission Requirements
Individuals seeking to earn the distance Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management would be required to apply to the University and to minimally meet the University's BAS or BLS degree program admission requirements as outlined below:
- an Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Associate of Science (AS), or Associate of Arts (AA) degree with a minimum of 60 semester hours (s.h.) of transferable credit including all career-technical course work
- a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above for Iowa Community College graduates
- a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5 or above for applicants with a degree from a community college outside of Iowa
- a minimum of 60 semester hours of transferable credit, or
- a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
