A recent Des Moines Register article highlighted JPEC faculty member Joseph Sulentic. In partnership with the UI Athletics Department, Sulentic has organized the sale of 120 throwback uniforms in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Kinnick Stadium. University of Iowa and Kent State players will wear 1938-era uniforms during the season-opener on September 4 at Kinnick Stadium. Eight student teams committed to developing their businesses have spent the summer doing just that at JPEC's new Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory (ELL). Under JPEC's guidance, aspiring UI entrepreneurs now have the resources to turn their ideas into viable businesses. The ELL is quickly becoming one of the most talked about resources available to UI students. In a recent cover story, the Daily Iowan highlighted ELL program participant Brad Phillips, owner of Innervision Industries, a company that specializes in videotaping extreme sports. The Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory will celebrate its formal grand opening during the fall semester. Watch for details in a future issue of this newsletter. |

Through the generous support of the Richard O. Jacobson Foundation, JPEC offered 32 Iowa middle school students the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship and starting their own businesses during a weeklong residential camp at the UI campus. Business ideas ranged from performance arts, new product development, and online sales. Winners earned seed capital to help start their businesses. In addition to the Jacobson Entrepreneurship Camp for middle school students, JPEC continues to offer a week-long Youth Entrepreneur Camp for 40 area elementary students sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company. |

It was standing room only at the Sandage Entrepreneurial Speaker Series event on April 23. Dr. Amir Arbisser, member of the State Board of Regents and founding member and president of Eye Surgeons Associates, P.C., spoke to more than 100 students and faculty on "Creating a Successful Professional Practice." Each year JPEC hosts a fall and spring speaker series, sponsored by the Sandage Charitable Trust, which was established by Charles and Elizabeth Sandage to support programs with an emphasis on free enterprise and entrepreneurship. |
