A University of Iowa team has won a $5,000 seed capital grant in the statewide Pappajohn New Venture Business Plan Competition, earning the top honors among 13 finalists. Josh Dreyer and Igor Dobrosavljevic's winning business plan was for Doctor's Notes, which provides busy doctors with electronic medical record software for a Pocket PC to organize patient information. |

The national Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization (CEO) recently honored I-Envision, JPEC's student entrepreneur association, giving it a first place award for Teaching Entrepreneurship and a second place award for Best Chapter Advisors, Dawn Bowlus and Lynn Jahn. |

More than 100 students and community business leaders attended the Sandage Entrepreneurial Speaker Series event on November 12. Kevin Krause, president of the Swing of the Quad Cities minor league baseball team, presented, "Full Count: A Sports Eye for the Business Guy." Each year JPEC hosts a fall and spring speaker series, sponsored by the Sandage Charitable Trust, which was established by Charles and Elizabeth Sandage to support programs with an emphasis on free enterprise and entrepreneurship. |

In January, four I-Envision members were invited to attend the University Private Equity Summit in Salt Lake City. Undergraduate students Jeremy O'Briant, Alan Lippert, Laura Westercamp, and Carla Meyer (pictured left to right) found themselves networking with and learning from seasoned venture capitalists and investment professionals. The University Private Equity Summit provides students from national universities the opportunity to hear keynote speakers and panelists from the professional community. |

Aspiring young entrepreneurs in the Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines area have the opportunity to attend JPEC's Youth Entrepreneur Camp (grades 3-5) or Jacobson Entrepreneurship Academy (grades 6-8). The Youth Entrepreneur Camp, sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company will be held in Iowa City July 11-15. Transportation to and from Cedar Rapids will be provided. The Jabobson Entrepreneurship Academy, sponsored by the Richard O. Jacobson Foundation, will be held in Iowa City June 20-25 and in Des Moines July 18-22. |
