JPEC Alumnus Fulfills Dream in Des Moines' East
Village | |
|
|
Two years ago in
an entrepreneurial class, 2003 UI graduate Tim Rypma decided that he
would buy and renovate four buildings along Grand Avenue in Des
Moines' East Village. Although the buildings were not for sale,
Rypma was determined and remained in close contact with owner Jim
Boyt.
Earlier this month,
Rypma and childhood friend, Zack Eubank, fulfilled their dream.
Featured by the Des Moines Register and the Des Moines Business Record, Rypma and
Eubank have big plans for continuing the development and renovation
work begun by Boyt in the 1970's.

Summer Entrepreneurship Programs Focus on Next
Generation | |
|
|
The Jacobson Entrepreneurship Academy's efforts
to inspire young entrepreneurs ages 11 to 14 was featured in the Des Moines Register, while JPEC's Youth Entrepreneur Camp geared for 3-5
graders was featured on Cedar Rapids' KCRG TV News.
During the three camps
held this summer, more than 100 elementary and middle school
students developed business plans and marketing materials for
businesses that they hope to start. As part of a continued
partnership with the UI entrepreneurial association, camp
participants received one-on-one mentoring and assistance from
members of I-Envision.
As part of JPEC's
teacher education program, more than 70 Iowa secondary and community
college instructors participated in JPEC's Seminar in Entrepreneurship training
program, joining a network of nearly 300 Iowa educators trained
since 2000.
