This is a collection of entrepreneurial information and activities provided by the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) at The University of Iowa designed to provide educators with the tools to:
- Integrate entrepreneurship education into the classroom; and
- Conduct a business plan competition.
According to a Gallop poll of American high school students (as cited in Kourilsky, 1999), 85% reported they knew little about business, 80% of high school students think that more entrepreneurship should be taught, while 68% indicated a desire to learn more about entrepreneurship.
JPEC feels strongly that providing educators with resources and support to incorporate entrepreneurship education into their classrooms will have a positive impact on youth and our economy. Offering students the opportunity to compete in a business plan competition encourages students to look seriously at starting and operating their own business while in middle school, high school, or college.
The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center would like to thank the Iowa Community Vitality Center in Ames, IA for support in the development and implementation of the Iowa High School Business Plan Competition.
