An analysis of arts administration principles and trends as applied to the creation of an arts-related enterprise. Students will examine case studies and create a business plan for a new arts organization or project.

Understanding financial aspects of new and growing ventures; focus on preparing financial projections, analyzing financial performance, managing cash flow, and determining financial feasibility; detailed overview of various sources of capital available for start-up and growing ventures. Operational and financing aspects of nonprofit management; mission and governance of organization; strategic planning for effective management, including finance, budget, income generation, fund-raising. Offered in fall and online.

Detailed study of professional sports management and marketing; building and managing a front office, marketing sports properties, revenue generation models, developing media relationships, and capitalizing on new opportunities in the sports industry.
ENTR:4460 (previously 06T:152) Entrepreneurship and Global Trade [ENTR:2000 (previously 06T:120) or ENTR:3520 (previously 06T:125) or MGMT:3100 (previously 06J:125) is a prerequisite].
Complex issues of business operations in a global economy; trade transactions related to importing and exporting, logistics, and ethical issues in international trade; global business management, global marketing, global supply chain management, and trade finance; preparation for work in global marketplace and for the Certified Global Business Professional certification exam offered by the North American Small Business International Trade Educators.

Performing arts management and administrative principles, practical applications, trends in arts leadership and advocacy. Offered each spring semester.
ENTR:4000 (previously 06T:190) Seminar in Entrepreneurship: Real Estate [ENTR:2000 (previously 06T:120) or ENTR:3520 (previously 06T:125) or MGMT:3100 (previously 06J:125) is a prerequisite].
Real estate and property issues facing the entrepreneurial venture; real estate development, legal and contractual issues, purchasing versus leasing, and basics of real estate financing and investing. Offered each fall and spring semester.
ENTR:4100 (previously 06T:191) Practicum in Entrepreneurship [ENTR:2000 (previously 06T:120) and ENTR:3100 (previously 06T:133), or with consent of instructor].
Students from five Iowa universities and colleges participate in advanced study of entrepreneurship that includes a team-based entrepreneurial venture computer simulation, seminars with successful entrepreneurs, business and community leaders, and networking and mentoring. Offered each summer semester.
ENTR:4200 (previously 06T:192) Entrepreneurship: Business Consulting [ENTR:2000 (previously 06T:120) or ENTR:3520 (previously 06T:125) or MGMT:3100 (previously 06J:125), ENTR:3100 (previously 06T:133) or FIN:3000 (previously 06F:100), and ENTR:3200 (previously 06T:134) or MKTG:3000 (previously 06M:100) are prerequisites].
Students provide strategic business consulting services to start-up and early-stage companies; exploration of consulting process (proposal development, data collection and analysis, team dynamics, communications with clients, developing recommendations, final report preparation and presentation); projects involving market research and analysis, financial analysis and projections, and strategic business and operations planning. ENTR:4600 (previously 06T:193) Advanced Venture Finance
This field study course provides experience to student teams providing consulting services to start-up and early-stage companies; the consulting process - proposal development, data collection and analysis, final report preparation and presentation; projects (marketing studies, financial projections, strategic planning). Offered each semester and online.
ENTR:4300 (previously 06T:194) Entrepreneurship: Advanced Business Planning [ENTR:2000 (previously 06T:120) or ENTR:3520 (previously 06T:125) or MGMT:3100 (previously 06J:125), ENTR:3100 (previously 06T:133) or FIN:3000 (previously 06F:100), and ENTR:3200 (previously 06T:134) or MKTG:3000 (previously 06M:100) are prerequisites].
This course is only open to individual students and student teams seriously pursuing the creation of a new venture. Students are required to complete a formal business plan, develop an elevator pitch for the concept, and prepare a formal presentation suitable for attracting capital to launch the new venture. ENTR:4900 (previously 06T:199) Academic Internship (1-3 s.h.)
Professional internship experience relating to entrepreneurship with associated academic credit (e.g., paper, course work). An instructor number and approval are required for registration in this course. Contact the instructor (or designated individual) for the instructor number, which you enter as the section number when you register. MGMT:3100 (previously 06J:125) Entrepreneurial Strategy
This integrative course examines entrepreneurial attributes such as innovation, creativity, and opportunity recognition, coupled with managerial attributes such as strategic management, planning, and budgeting, and the synergistic impact these attributes have on all types of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Offered each fall and spring semester.
MGMT:3200 (previously 06J:130) Individuals, Teams, and Organizations [MGMT:4000 (previously 06J:047) and MGMT:2100 (previously 06J:048) are prerequisites].
This course offers theories of organizational behavior applied to current business trends for individuals, teams, organizations; personality, managing diversity, work-family conflict, self-managed teams, charismatic leadership, work motivation, managing conflict, organizational culture.
MGMT:3300 (previously 06J:131) Strategic Human Resource Management [MGMT:4000 (previously 06J:047) and MGMT:2100 (previously 06J:048) are prerequisites].
People management activities, policies, and practices that promote effective organizations; how changes in technology, business restructuring, legal and social concerns, other issues affect human resource management.
MGMT:4100 (previously 06J:156) Dynamics of Negotiations [MGMT:3200 (previously 06J:130) and MGMT:3300 (previously 06J:131)
are prerequisites].
Predictable aspects and dynamics of bargaining experiences; simulations, experiential exercises to foster skills needed for effective negotiations in almost any situation. Prerequisite: 90 semester hours. Offered each fall and spring semester.
